Construction firm collapses after wedding venue contract dispute

A Wetherby construction firm has collapsed after it ran into problems involving a major construction project to create a wedding venue near Harewood Bridge between Leeds and Harrogate.

Haresign, which was based in Sicklinghall, undertook niche construction projects, creating handcrafted buildings including a number of commercial and residential developments around West and North Yorkshire.

Administrators say a dispute arose which led to the company’s contract for the wedding venue at Wharfedale Grange being terminated, resulting in “significant” cashflow problems for Haresign.

On March 26, the company was placed into the hands of joint administrators Julian Pitts and Bob Maxwell of Begbies Traynor in Leeds.

It has ceased trading with the loss of 11 jobs. It also used the services of a number of subcontractors.

“The joint administrators are currently reviewing the issues around the dispute in order to ensure the best outcome for the company’s creditors,” said Begbies Traynor.
