Major fire at popular garden centre

A large garden centre in North Yorkshire has been extensively damaged by a major fire over the weekend.

The North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue service was called to Strikes Garden Centre in Stokesley at 9.18pm on Friday and remained on site overnight and into Saturday morning.

The service said that the whole building was involved in the fire, with major fire damage – including a roof collapse.

David Arbus, retail operations director for Klondyke Strikes, told the BBC that 90% of the shop had been destroyed. He praised staff who had been arriving for work on Saturday morning.
