Storage company expands into Yorkshire

A Derby self-storage company has opened its seventh depot, expanding over the county border into Yorkshire.

BE Webbe has opened its latest facility – costing £1.3m – in Rotherham and says it is now looking to create more depots in Yorkshire.

The company, based on Mansfield Road, Derby, bought the Woodlands Works on Mangham Road, in December, ready for its first venture into Yorkshire.

BE Webbe paid £1m for the premises and has since spent another £300,000 fitting it out.

The company will be operating from Unit One, which will create 20,000 sq ft of storage space made up of 105 individual units ranging in size from 15 sq ft to 170 sq ft.

Phase Two, which is planned to operate in April next year, will double the storage space available by creating another 20,000 sq ft.

The building works, carried out by sister company Ivygrove Developments, consisted of demolishing the offices and other facilities, taking out old mezzanine floors and installing a new one of 10,000 sq ft, and building new offices, facilities, and reception area together with toilets and loading bays.

The company has also built seven storage units which are accessible 24/7. There is potential for more of these as there is a large yard which could be used.

Ivygrove has also developed Unit Two which consists of 6,000 sq ft which will be rented out at £27,000 per year.

Director Richard Blount said: “There is a definite need for such a self-storage facility in the Rotherham area.

“We are catering for anybody who has anything to store whether it be personal and home effects, business and archive items.”

This is the first time that the BE Webbe Group has extended its operations in Yorkshire since they ran SB Hogg Removals in the 1980s.

“We are looking to open more self-storage facilities there in due course,” added Richard.

BE Webbe has two self-storage facilities in Derby, with others at Burton, Long Eaton, Nottingham, and Sutton-in-Ashfield.
