Infrastructure projects totalling £10m to get underway

Four new infrastructure development projects are set to get underway in the Humber after a £10m funding package was secured.

Humber Local Enterprise Partnership will receive the funding from the government’s Local Growth Fund (LGF), secured through the Humber’s Growth Deals, for three new projects.

The allocations for the latest £8m round of funding, which are subject to a final business case, come shortly after the announcement of investment in a programme of road and cycle improvements to the A180 and link roads as part of the Grimsby Town Deal in early July. This brings the total allocation of LGF across the four projects this month to £10m.

Projects include:

Delivering Housing Growth in Hull 2, a £4m scheme led by Hull City Council. The programme will unlock up to 1,000 homes for open market sale and affordable rent by tackling site issues and adverse ground conditions. A further 100 empty properties will be brought back into use and a renewal programme will provide frontage and energy efficiency improvements in prioritised areas.  :

South Humber Gateway Scheme in North Lincolnshire, a £2.4m scheme led by North Lincolnshire Council. The scheme will upgrade the highways infrastructure, improving connectivity between the Port of Immingham, oil refineries and the strategic road network whilst ensuring that the infrastructure also supports any future businesses operating around the South Humber bank.

A180 and South Humber Bank Highway Improvements in North East Lincolnshire, a £2m scheme led by North East Lincolnshire Council. This phase 1 of 3 will deliver essential maintenance to two key industrial roads connecting directly with the A180 and leading to important employment sites. It will also increase sustainable travel options for cyclists and pedestrians within key employment zones.

Development of Priory Park in Hull, a £1.4m scheme led by Hull City Council. The project will open up 12 acres of land at Henry Boot Way in West Hull in order to generate further private sector investment of up to £15m, the development of up to 15,600sqm of commercial floor-space and the accommodation of up to 280 jobs.

Lord Haskins, Chair of the Humber LEP said: “The three [new] road projects will improve access to key employment sites, including our Enterprise Zone sites, helping to support business growth and job creation.  It is essential that we have an infrastructure that supports growth, and these latest investments through the LEP will make a further contribution to that.

“The expansion of the Hull housing programme will enable the development of new homes and bring empty properties back in to use.  This is a highly effective programme which should be regarded as a national exemplar that could be rolled out elsewhere.  It is helping to transform the housing market in the city, which is vital for its future prosperity.”

The Northern Powerhouse and Local Growth Minister Jake Berry added: “The Humber is an important part of the Northern Powerhouse and this £10m infrastructure investment from the Local Growth Fund will help support communities, further local growth, and create jobs and new homes in the area.”
