Businessman launches campaign against PwC

Larry Gould

A Leeds business man has launched a campaign which he says “fights for commercial fairness” and challenges PwC’s level of service.

Larry Gould, founder and Chairman of Leeds-headquartered translation services firm thebigword Group, yesterday launched a campaign called ‘Justice 4 People’ outside PwC’s HQ in London and also its Leeds office. He said the campaign fights for commercial fairness, and challenges the big four accountancy firm’s level of service and significant charges.

Gould said he received “poor service” from PwC, and that they  failed to adequately respond to his attempts to resolve an ongoing dispute. Gould and others backing the campaign wore sandwich boards and distributed leaflets in close proximity to the PwC offices yesterday.

The campaign intends to not only draw attention to the low level of service but to also highlight other examples of similar behaviour – Gould said he hoped that the campaign would “serve as a warning to all of the potential hazards of engaging PwC.”

Gould said: “I have received a very poor level of service from PwC at huge expense. My lawyers and I have experienced huge problems in getting responses from PwC and their lawyers. They constantly delay progress and often ignore our questions.

“Through this campaign I hope to stop large organisations like PwC hiding behind the high cost of litigation. These high costs prevent many companies from pursuing claims as they don’t have the resources to fight the largest accountancy companies in the world on a level playing field.”

A PwC spokesman said: “We are sorry that Mr Gould feels this way and decided to take this action. As we have made clear in the extensive correspondence with his lawyers, we do not agree with his comments or allegations. We remain willing to discuss and resolve this matter through the proper channels.”
