£2.1m expansion to Sheffield primary school completed

A multi-million-pound extension to create additional teaching space at a Sheffield primary school has been unveiled.

The £2.1m project, completed by energy and regeneration specialist ENGIE on behalf of Sheffield City Council, has seen the construction of a new two-storey teaching block to the rear of Totley Primary School and a single storey extension to the existing school building.

The new extension has created space for six additional classrooms, a staff room, media suite, library and dual food technology and science lab.

Sean Corcoran, regional director for ENGIE’s places and communities division, said: “After months of working with our partners to help them transform their vision for the school into a reality, we’re delighted to see this project unveiled to the public by those who are most proud of it.

“The team have really enjoyed working with the school; giving the children behind the scenes tours of the extension as it has progressed through the development stages as well as offering plenty of engagement activities to teach them about the industry.

“We hope that the schoolchildren thrive in their new teaching space and hopefully we might see one or two of them become the next generation of construction talent.”

Councillor Jayne Dunn, cabinet member for education and skills at Sheffield City Council, added: “I’m delighted to see the completion of the expansion at Totley Primary, which provides state of the art facilities for local children and the local area.

“The expansion is a key part of our work to meet the increased local demand for school places in the north-east and south-west of the city.”

Ben Paxman, head teacher at Totley Primary School, said: “Seeing the children take such pride in showing off their magnificent new school to parents, governors and a whole host of special visitors was such an honour.

“The modern learning environments which have been created by the team of designers, engineers and builders are truly inspirational and have given our children the very best facilities in which to flourish.”
