Listed firm’s CEO to deliver keynote speech at ninth Yorkshire Business Masters Awards

The chief executive of a listed firm is to deliver a keynote speech at TheBusinessDesk.com’s Yorkshire Business Masters Awards next month.

Douglas McCormick, the chief executive of Leeds-headquartered WYG, will speak at the black-tie event at The Queens Hotel on Thursday March 28 about how Yorkshire’s collaborative and ambitious approach is integral to the success and growth of business.  The shortlist for the ninth Yorkshire Business Masters Awards was revealed last month, with a wide range of businesses across the region being recognised for their achievements.

The prestigious awards, which this year has two new categories, will be hosted by BBC’s Danni Hewson. This year’s event is expected to attract around 300 individuals from across the business community and is sponsored by Reward Finance Group, Rahman Ravelli, Lupton Fawcett, Clarion, Armstrong Watson and Together Money.

McCormick was appointed CEO in 2017. With more than 30 years working in the construction industry, he holds a diverse portfolio of experience and a strong track record of cultivating lasting client relationships. His well-honed commercial and networking skills also enable him to excel at effectively managing across international boundaries. At WYG, he oversees operations and 1,600 staff in over 50 locations around the world, along with a growing network of 20,000 partners and associates.

“I’m delighted to be speaking at The Business Masters Awards in Leeds. The Yorkshire region is a vitally important market for WYG and an area that is thriving and shows great promise for the future of business in the UK,” said McCormick.

“Leeds city centre will become the new home of WYG’s headquarters this summer, putting us at the heart of the Leeds business community. This move is testament to our commitment and support of the region and an important part of our plans to target growth across the range of professional services we deliver for clients in the region.”

Prior to his role at WYG, McCormick served as chief executive of Sweett Group plc, managing £90m of revenue and 1,500 staff across 18 countries. During his tenure, McCormick brought about stability by creating significant value for shareholders. Previously, he acted as Group Managing Director at Rail – Atkins (UK), managing over £200m of revenue and over 1,700 staff across the UK, India, and China.
