Construction of £40m innovation hub completes

Nexus, the University of Leeds’ £40m innovation hub, has opened its doors following the completion of a two year construction process.

The Nexus team, alongside the University’s Research & Innovation Service, have moved into the state-of-the-art facility, with the first members set to move in next month, ahead of the official launch in May.

Located on Discovery Way, a new entrance to the University campus from Woodhouse Lane, Nexus is spread over five floors and will feature state-of-the-art facilities including office and lab space, collaboration areas, event and meeting space.

It will be a hub for the growing innovation community in Leeds; bringing together world-class ideas, concepts and technologies to deliver breakthrough solutions to real world, market-based problems and give businesses a competitive edge in a dynamic market.

Nexus Director, Dr Martin Stow, said: “After many months of preparations, we are delighted to be moving into the new building. It’s an exciting time for Nexus, as we gear up to welcome our first members into the building. We have worked hard to create the right environment, facilities and support to encourage collaboration and innovation, to ensure our members have access to the very best opportunities to develop their ideas and grow their business.

“It marks a significant milestone in the creation of a vibrant community for entrepreneurs, businesses and innovators to come together with university researchers, professional partners and emerging student and graduate talent. These valuable collaborations will deliver commercial impact and generate economic growth for Leeds and beyond.”

Stow will work alongside Nexus Operations Managing Director, Tracy Robinson, who is responsible for the management of the facility and ensuring that Nexus is an inspiring and productive environment in which to work, connect and collaborate.

Robinson added: “The right working environment can make a real difference to how a business performs and I firmly believe that the collaborative environment created by Nexus, coupled with seamless access to business advice and academic expertise from the University, gives start-ups and businesses a real opportunity to innovate and thrive. We look forward to showing our members and prospective tenants all that Nexus has to offer.”
