Asda CEO steps down from Huddersfield Town board

Roger Burnley has resigned from his role as Non-Executive Director on the Huddersfield Town Board of Directors with immediate effect to concentrate on his role at Asda.

Burnley initially joined the Club in this unpaid role in November 2015, which the club said added considerable expertise and business acumen to Town. Now Burnley – a lifelong Huddersfield Town fan – has resigned to focus on his role as President and Chief Executive Officer of retail giant Asda.

Huddersfield Town FC said: “Over the last three-and-a-half years, he has been a valuable sounding-board for the Directors and the Club’s department heads, helping to reinforce the best practise from private enterprise into the world of football.”

Huddersfield Town Chairman Dean Hoyle said: “I’d like to place our thanks on record to Roger for his fantastic contribution to the Club since joining us as Non-Executive Director back in November 2015. Although his role is not one that’s hugely visible to supporters, I’d assure our fans that Roger has more than played his part in everything we’ve achieved here.

“Roger stepping down is totally understandable with the backdrop of his increasingly busy career leading Asda. He can now return to his previous role as a lifelong supporter!”

Burnley added: “It’s been an honour to be involved with my beloved club over the last three years. I will, of course, still very much be around as a fan and will be cheering us on home and away in the Sky Bet Championship next season.”
