Law firm with 120-year history to open York office

A law firm which has been in existence for over 120 years is opening a second office for the first time in its history through its expansion into York.

Sintons has been based on a single site in Newcastle since its inception in 1896 and has its headquarters in the city centre.

The full service firm has announced it is to open a consulting office in Tower House in York next month, which will become a base to meet clients from across the county and wider UK. The office is within the imposing setting of the former Army Northern Command Headquarters, which dates from the 1800s.

Sintons works across the UK in many of its specialist areas, including being a leading advisor within healthcare, insurance litigation, neurotrauma and corporate and commercial work. The firm already acts for many commercial and public sector organisations throughout Yorkshire whilst lawyers from its private client teams act for numerous individuals within the region, across a range of sectors including agriculture, construction and the retail and leisure industry.

Sintons has also recently won a coveted appointment to the legal panel of Day One, a holistic support service for patients and their families who have been affected by major trauma. The service delivered by Leeds Cares in partnership with patients, clinicians and NHS trusts, works together with other specialist organisations in Leeds and across Yorkshire, to improve the lives of individuals suffering serious injury.

The opening of Sintons’ York consulting office comes as the latest step in the law firm’s growth, with strong progress seen across the whole business over the past two years. It is also pursuing an ongoing recruitment drive to add new legal talent to its team, with several lawyers relocating from as far afield as London and Manchester to join Sintons.

Mark Quigley, managing partner of Sintons, said: “Having worked nationally from our single site for over 120 years, we felt the time was right to look at opening another base so we could be more accessible to clients who have to travel some distance to our Newcastle headquarters. York, as well as being a very desirable location, has superb transport links and is very conveniently situated for our growing client base across Yorkshire and the Midlands.

“Tower House will be an important addition to what we offer at Sintons, and we are looking forward to pursuing further growth across Yorkshire on the back of us opening this office. Our reputation already extends into Yorkshire and far beyond and our strengths as a firm match many of the key sectors in Yorkshire. We are delighted to become part of the York business community and look forward to getting to know our peers over the course of the coming weeks and months.”
