Council unveils city centre living masterplan

Hull City Council has shared its proposals for a residential scheme at the rear of the St Stephen’s Shopping Centre.

It says this masterplan aims to transform the area while delivering much needed new homes.

Land to the rear of St Stephen’s is allocated for housing development in the Local Plan and is owned by the council.

In July 2023, the council approved plans to seek to bring forward around 200 properties on the site and explore development opportunities in the wider area.

Proposals include construction of multi-storey city centre properties on currently unused land, creation of high quality open space, and redeveloping the empty south wing of Earle House.

A two-week public consultation on the plans will begin on Monday 28 April.

Chris Jackson, director of regeneration at the council, said: “This scheme demonstrates the council’s commitment to high quality, sustainable city centre living.

“Gaining the public’s views on these proposals is vital to ensure that they fit in with the needs and requirements of our residents, so we appreciate people giving up their time to share their thoughts with us.”

The master planning is being funded through the council’s One Public Estate capital programme.

The proposals will also be included in Hull’s wider City Centre Vision which is currently being prepared, with consultation planned for May.
