Property People: Law firm hires property experts to drive conveyancing division; Team changes at wates signals regional growth

Sheffield’s Taylor&Emmet is to benefit from the experience of two of the city’s most highly regarded residential property experts.

The firm has appointed Steve Hinshelwood and John Outram as consultants to help drive and develop its residential conveyancing business.

Hinshelwood will be working with department head Neil Riley to identify opportunities for growth and raise Taylor&Emmet’s profile in the regional property market. He has more than 30 years’ experience in estate agency and financial services, most recently as managing director of Blundells.

Former Taylor&Emmet senior partner and conveyancing specialist Outram has also been retained as a consultant, following his retirement in April.

Riley said: “Both Steve and John have invaluable experience and insight into the residential property sector that we believe will support and enhance the service we offer. To remain at the forefront of this competitive sector, we must identify opportunities for growth and continue to improve keys areas, such as transaction speeds and lines of communication. By inviting their scrutiny, I have no doubt we will find innovative ways to challenge our teams and evolve to meet changing expectations.”

Contractor Wates Construction has recruited Kyle McGrory as regional commercial director, becoming the latest in a line of team changes as the contractor eyes further growth across the North East and Yorkshire.

His appointment closely follows a host of internal promotions, which recently saw the business’ former regional commercial director David Wingfield take the helm as business unit director for North East and Yorkshire.

McGrory will now be responsible for the commercial strategy for the region, leading the business’ 35-strong commercial team and overseeing all commercial aspects of pre-construction and project delivery.

He joins Wates from Mace where he was associate director for three years, having joined the business as cost manager in 2011, working across a range of retail new-build and fit-out projects.

Alongside Kyle’s appointment, the region has also seen a raft of internal promotions, including:
●      Steve Christie, promoted to the role of Operations Director for MEP, responsible for the operational and strategic governance of Wates Construction’s M&E services across North East & Yorkshire and North West, including out-sourced M&E services and those delivered in-house by Wates Building Services;
●      Simon Dodson, promoted to the role of Pre-Construction Director, overseeing Wates Construction’s business development and work-winning strategy for new project across North East & Yorkshire;
●      Dan Miller, promoted to the role of Project Director at MEPC’s Wellington Place in Leeds where Dan has overseen a number of commercial projects since 2014 and is currently delivering the £87m project on behalf of MEPC;
●      Mark Lunn, promoted to the role of Regional Commercial Manager, responsible for the successful commercial delivery of all projects across the North East and Yorkshire.

Paul Dodsworth, managing director of Wates Construction North, said: “Kyle joins the business at a very exciting time. We have recently taken up residence of our new office at Thorpe Park, a base from which we intend to grow our project portfolio and build upon our strong industry reputation. The resource in our team is the cornerstone of our growth strategy and Kyle’s appointment, in addition to the promotions within the business, will undoubtedly enhance what is already a very solid regional team.”
