Weekender: Further food options added at Leeds Kirkgate Market

With over 30 street food and café options to choose from there’s even more being added to the menu at Leeds Kirkgate Market.

The market is upping its offer with foods from Mexico and Colombia. Casa Mexica brings authentic Mexican street food. Already established in Manchester, this will be their first opening in Leeds.

Kanassa Kitchen, the brain child of Leeds sisters Anna and Beth, has been born out of a love of Colombian street food inspired by Anna’s travels across Colombia in 2016/17.

Kanassa (‘God of Fire’) will be bringing wholesome Colombian-inspired street food with its own special twist.

A third eatery – George Street fishery – will join the Market Kitchen in September where they’ll be serving everyone’s favourite city centre fish and chips. The Market Kitchen will also be the new home of Cargo Crepes. They will be serving up authentic sweet crepes, a hearty galette and vegan and gluten free fluffy pancakes.

Councillor Asghar Khan, Leeds City Council’s deputy executive member with responsibility for markets, said: “We are thrilled with the amount of new traders seeing Leeds Kirkgate Market as the place to start up a new food business. Our market is a hub for food lovers, from the wide variety of fresh ingredients to the expanse of exciting street food and the new traders will increase the choice people have when visiting our Market Kitchen.”
