Bathroom brand which fell into administration is resurrected by Yorkshire firm

Elland-based The Buy it Direct Group, an online appliance, IT and home retailers, says it has turned around bathroom retailer Better Bathrooms from administration to being a profitable company in six months, since acquiring the business in March.

Buy it Direct added it had managed to save the jobs of 25 Better Bathrooms employees, all of whom are still employed and working on the brand.

Due to the rapid growth of the acquisition, Buy it Direct is now looking to recruit a further 25 members of staff to join the Better Bathrooms team.

Administrators closed all bricks and mortar stores, so Better Bathrooms has been transformed into a fully online model, operating from a central distribution hub.

And Buy it Direct has announced plans to beat Better Bathrooms’ £50m peak revenue, within two years of the acquisition.

Nick Glynne, Managing Director at Buy it Direct Group, said: “We are delighted to have acquired Better Bathrooms, which has great credentials within the bathroom and trade sectors, bringing further specialisms under the Buy it Direct umbrella.

“This acquisition is key to the continued growth of Buy it Direct, and allows us to maintain our position within the e-commerce market. We anticipate BetterBathrooms.com will become a real growth market for the group, as we establish ourselves as the go-to supplier of bathroom fittings and accessories.

“Our revenue trajectory shows that if we continue at our current pace, we will have taken BetterBathrooms.com from administration to smashing their peak revenue of £50m within two years.”

Buy It Direct sells products including laptops, kitchen appliances, TVs and furniture through a network of websites including Laptops Direct, Appliances Direct and Furniture 123.

BetterBathrooms, which was based in Leigh, ceased trading in March with the loss of 362 jobs. It had 13 showrooms and two trade counters across the UK.
