Dozens of new homes to be constructed in village

REDROW Homes is pushing east with a development of 56 new homes in the East Riding of Yorkshire village of Swanland, near Hull.

The homebuilder has acquired a site of just under five acres off West Wold and has planning consent for a range of two, three, four and five-bedroom properties, including 14 affordable homes and four bungalows.

While Redrow has previously built in Cottingham and Barton-upon-Humber, latterly its Yorkshire housebuilding operation has been focused on areas around Leeds, Wakefield, Huddersfield and York.

Paul Oldridge, managing director of Redrow Homes (Yorkshire), said: “Swanland is an excellent location and perfect for our traditional looking homes which are known for their external character.

“The homes will be based on our much-admired Arts & Crafts inspired Heritage Collection but with architectural detailing and finishes that are sympathetic and complementary to the local vernacular.

“They are set to be popular with families, downsizers and young professionals alike. In particular we’ve incorporated some of our new Lifestyle Homes, which are tailored for those who want fewer but larger bedrooms and the luxury of an en-suite to every bedroom.”

Woodland to the north of the development is being retained, as is a mature hedge to the south of the site that provides the boundary between Redrow’s development, to be known as Swanland Heights, and the existing playing fields and park.

The Swanland Heights development is within walking distance of the village centre. The village itself is on the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds and two miles north of the Humber Estuary, while Hull is seven miles away.

The 14 affordable houses will be made available for social rent, shared equity or discounted sale. Redrow will make a contribution of £142,408 towards local education and £186,944 for recreational facilities in the area.

Initial work has already begun on site to create the infrastructure for the homes. Redrow will launch off-plan sales at Swanland Heights in January from Stanifords Estate Agents in Swanland, with the first homes set to be ready for occupation in early summer.
