Plans approved for multiplex cinema

Permission has been given for a six-screen multiplex cinema in Scarborough.

The Harris Partnership has confirmed the approval of the application by Scarborough Borough Council for the town’s North Bay, on the former site of the Atlantis Water Park. The cinema is due to open in summer 2021.

The scheme will feature the multiplex alongside 53 apartments, five restaurants, four shops, a sky bar, a gym and associated car parking spaces.

Neighbouring growing attractions such as the Open Air Theatre, the cinema complex will bring a much-needed update to the North Bay for both residents and tourists to enjoy.

Harris Project Management (HPM) has been appointed as principal designer alongside The Harris Partnership (THP) for this 150,000 sq ft GIA overall development, which features an investment of approximately £15m.

James Richmond, group director at The Harris Partnership, said: “It’s fantastic to see this development start to come to fruition after enduring a couple of setbacks. At The Harris Partnership we have a long tradition of creating schemes which benefit the local community and this multiplex cinema will provide much needed leisure services for the town.”

Nationally, The Harris Partnership (THP) has a portfolio of innovative mixed-use retail parks and residential home schemes in Paignton, Devon as well as retail parks in Teeside, Shrewsbury and Warrington.
