Sheffield’s four-star Hilton hotel at Victoria Quays officially closed on Sunday.

The building on Furnival Road has 128 bedrooms, a spa with a gym and swimming pool and the Quays Restaurant. It had been a hotel since 1997.

Hilton has managed the property since 1999 on behalf of the leaseholder Park Victoria Quays Lessee Ltd, which had decided to surrender its lease. It is understood the hotel had employed about 100 permanent stuff members.

The Star newspaper reported that plans for the large building’s future have still not been outlined.

It also noted that this part of Sheffield has undergone a £5.8m investment to connect it to the city centre and it is feared Hilton’s departure will be a setback.

The closure has left Hilton with two properties in Sheffield – the Hampton by Hilton Sheffield, and the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel Sheffield Park.
