Developer reveals plans for waterfront PRS

During a recent tour of the Renaissance Works – the redevelopment of the former historic Co-Operative building in Huddersfield town centre – the developer revealed its ambitions to bring a PRS development to Huddersfield.
Renaissance Works will see the building, which previously housed the Heaven and Hell nightclub, transformed by family run SKA Development into 138 bed student accommodation with a mix of studio apartments and flats.
Zeb Pervaiz, director of SKA Development commented, “We market what we offer as grown up living, offering students the choice of studio rooms or apartments, providing them with everything from internet access to communal facilities and white goods, so all they have to do is move in.”
When asked how student accommodation such as this, changes what graduates expect he continued: “millennials now have different demands, some do not want to own their own houses but are looking for high end living.
“We’ve got a few ambitions for that [PRS] down at the waterfront and it should be coming out probably mid 2020. We’re developing a £175m gross value development project. Which we see as a natural progression for the students who live at Renaissance Works moving to once they graduate. Huddersfield is a fantastic location live and a place where anyone can make – I made it here.
“The fantastic businesses such as Cummings and Reliance but with the electrification of the TransPennine route it will only improve connectivity to Leeds and Manchester further.
Renaissance Works is part of the Huddersfield Blueprint project which will see the town centre transformed over the next decade and includes the transformation of areas around the station, Queensgate and New Street areas.
The development is being delivered by SKA Developments, Big Red Industries and with Spring and Co as the principal contractor.
