Top stories of 2019

As we draw 2019 to a close it’s time to look at the top five stories of the last 12 months on TheBusinessDesk.com.

The top story for the year, was the decision by global bank, Handelsbanken to relocate its Leeds team to Lawnswood Business Park after securing an 11-year lease on 2,000 sq ft office space.

The second most read story on the site highlights the difficulties felt by many businesses over the last 365 days. It was when Bradford-headquartered Greenwoods entered liquidation. The announcement by the menswear retailer came 12 months after it had been bought out of administration.

Also making the top three was the announcement by big four accountancy firm PwC that it had taken a 9,000 sq ft office in Bradford. The move saw the firm locate its new assurance centre on Godwin Street creating 225 jobs in the city.

The remaining two stories saw the launch of Lidl’s largest ever distribution centre at Doncaster’s iPort creating 400 jobs and the acquisition of the four-star Aldwark Manor golf and spa hotel near York by Depho Estates.

Outside of these top five stories however you can further evidence of the impact of political and economic uncertainty, with a number of stories of administration. These included Sellers Global Engineers, YTM Group and Total Polyfilm.

We hope you have found our news stories interesting and informative and we will be back in 2020 with more of the same and some new features. Until then we would like to wish all of our readers a Merry Christmas and all the best for 2020.
