Closed 128-bed hotel to be re-launched next month
The landmark former Sheffield Hilton hotel is set for a new future.
UK independent hotel management company, Legacy Hotels & Resorts, has been appointed to re-open the four-star hotel and leisure club over the coming weeks following its closure late last year.
The property, which originally opened under the ownership and branding of Stakis Hotels, features 128 bedrooms, a spa with an extensive gym and swimming pool, meeting spaces and is home to the Quays Restaurant.
Situated on Furnival Road, at Victoria Quays, close to the historic railway arches. The building is a well-known and prominent feature on the city skyline.
New operators, Legacy Hotels & Resorts, is a privately owned, hotel management company with a portfolio of trading hotels and a development pipeline of branded and independent guestrooms throughout the UK, Spain and Scandinavia representing around 3,300 guestrooms.
The news is a New Year boost for Sheffield’s hotel sector and the Victoria Quays area where a £5.8m scheme to strengthen access links to the city centre is set for completion in March.
It is anticipated the hotel, to be re-named The Quays Hotel – Sheffield, will open in early February following the implementation of new systems and the recruitment of staff.
The new operator’s plans will see the hotel’s gym facilities becoming active again for guests and non-residents, where there was a membership of more than 1,400 – this is scheduled for the end of the month.

“Having previously worked for Stakis Hotels back in its day I recall the hotel’s opening with fondness and the enthusiasm it drove to that part of the city – I hope in time we can re-kindle those emotions and support.
“This is set to be an exciting time for one of the city’s best-known hotel locations. It is a well-established addition to our flourishing hotel portfolio.
“Over the years the hotel has been popular with guests, diners and leisure facility users alike. It has tremendous potential where we will also seek to build on its popularity as an event location.”

Hilton Sheffield ceased to operate on 15 December 2019. Hilton managed the property on behalf of the owning company which surrendered its lease resulting in the closure.
The closure was not linked to Hilton’s operation of the hotel.
