House builder outlines ambitions for growth

The development team at Jones Homes Yorkshire has increased in size over the past four years to complement the regional house builder’s ambitious plans for expansion.

The business has sites in Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire and currently builds 100 new homes each year. It aims to increase this to more than 200 new homes per year by 2022.

Expanding the development team was identified as a key element in achieving this target, which was set out in the company’s five-year plan in 2017.

Over the past four years, the Development Department team, which is based at the house builder’s regional office in Cleckheaton, has increased its workforce significantly.

Three new roles have been created during that period – development coordinator, development engineer, and development and land assistant in addition to new recruits appointed to the existing positions of development director, technical manager and development technician.

Mike Parrott, who heads the department as development director, said: “The development team is an integral and important part of the business.

“We have a role and influence in most stages of the development process, from land acquisition through technical design and construction to the point of sale. Following site build and sales completion, we still play a role in ensuring that roads and sewers are adopted and open areas adequately maintained.”

“In terms of growth, it was initially decided to recruit a development coordinator, Chris Charlton, as the natural first step in the department’s progression.

“Shortly thereafter a development engineer, Gerard Furness, was appointed and because we work in close union with the Land Department we appointed Liz Northcote as the development and land department assistant.

“The latest recruits to the department are Joshua Brodrick, development technician, and the most recent appointment of Sean Berry to the team as technical manager. Sean’s appointment is crucial to the Development Department’s role within Jones Homes Yorkshire, providing a day-to-day overview of team priorities and management of the supply of information to other departments.

“It is vital for our team to provide concise and timely release of accurate and technically correct information to ensure each development is built to the highest possible standards. Our team structure is now ideally appointed to ensure this happens.”

Jones Homes Yorkshire is currently building across the county in Holmfirth, Huddersfield, Harthill, Thorpe Hesley and Treeton, as well as in Clowne and Bolsover in Derbyshire and Harworth and Worksop in Nottinghamshire.
