Former entertainment venues set to become offices

A planning application for new offices on Toft Green has been submitted to City of York Council.

York-based developer North Star is proposing a full redevelopment the former Fibbers nightclub/venue, Bierkeller and gentleman’s club site into a 16,500 sq ft office building.

This is intended to help meet the shortage of good quality offices in the city centre.

The scheme has been drawn up by York-based architects Vincent & Brown. It includes a 3,500 sq ft garden terrace, creating a green space to improve the setting of the Grade I listed Micklegate House to the rear of the site.

An extensive consultation has taken place over recent months, including a public exhibition in December.

A spokesperson for North Star said: “This development will create much needed new offices, supports the council’s aspiration to attract high quality jobs to the city, and help tackle the chronic lack of grade A office space in the city centre.

“It will add to the renaissance that has taken place in this area over recent years.”

The venues closed in January, however Fibbers is actively seeking a replacement live music space in York.
