Development land hunt for commercial property specialist

Onward Holdings, a commercial property specialist, is searching for available land in Yorkshire to meet the UK logistics property market’s need for more warehouse space in the North.

The company says it wants to buy land suitable for development, or existing sites in need of redevelopment in West Yorkshire.

It explains these are sites which could potentially be used to build up the stock of warehouse and industrial units that will offer an alternative to locations in central England.

A spokesman for the business said: “Obviously, the housing crisis in the UK needs to be addressed and local authorities face tricky decisions over valuable land resources.

“But they will be missing an economic trick if not proposing to allocate any new sites for primary warehousing and distribution centres, which will bring long-term benefits and thousands of jobs to local areas.

“Yorkshire’s major motorway network makes it a gateway to UK markets and beyond.

“Places like Castleford and Featherstone offer easy reach to the northern container ports, Doncaster Airport and the railway freight network via the nearby Wakefield Europort.

“Around 80% of the UK’s population is accessible in four hours, making these locations ideal for bulk distribution items.”

Neil Storey, director of Onward Holdings, said: “We are on the hunt for more commercial sites in West Yorkshire that would benefit from development or redevelopment to accommodate the growing demand for storage, distribution and fulfilment hubs.

“We have been successful in securing some prime locations in Yorkshire for logistics facilities, but more land near to the motorway junctions needs to be allocated.”

The fourth-generation family-run business operates industrial warehousing in the region. Its sites include Castleford, Doncaster, Ackworth, Scunthorpe and Featherstone.

Onward Holdings also built Onyx Retail Park, the shopping and eating destination on the former Manvers colliery in South Yorkshire.
