City centre site acquired for new built to rent scheme

A one-acre site in Sheffield city centre which forms part of city’s largest development project, has been purchased by a national developer, who plans to create a residential build to rent scheme.

Godwin developments has revealed it plans for the site on the corner of Farm Road and Queens Road, stating the site will comprise over 300 units, is expected to create more than 200 temporary jobs during its construction phase, with an additional 30 permanent roles when operational.

The city centre development will form a significant part of the Sheffield Midland Station and Sheaf Valley Development framework – a £1.5bn, 20 year plan to develop the area around Sheffield Rail Station.

Stuart Pratt, group development director for Godwin Developments told Property Week: “We are absolutely delighted to have secured this highly desirable site, situated in the Sheaf Gardens area in Sheffield. It comes just two weeks after we announced plans for another significant project, currently under way in Stafford, that will see the construction of over 300 residential BTR homes in the Midlands.”

He added: “The scheme highlights yet again our expanding footprint in the BTR sector and ability to maintain momentum despite current economic challenges. This achievement is a testament to the commitment and professionalism of our team and the support provided by leading legal advisers Irwin Mitchell who assisted us on this transaction.”

The Sheffield Midland Station and Sheaf Valley Development framework was revealed earlier this year, when Mazher Iqbal, cabinet member for business and development, said: “This is the biggest, most ambitious and most expensive development project Sheffield has seen.

“It will transform the Sheaf Valley and visitors’ arrival at the station, join Park HIll with the city, connect the station with Heart of the City II and create an entire new quarter for Sheffield.”
