Former Ministry of Defence site to become new homes in £30m deal

A deal worth £30m has been agreed with developer Lovell Partnerships and Homes England, which will provide more than 100 homes at a former Ministry of Defence site near Wetherby.

The former Royal Ordnance Factory at Thorp Arch will provide a mix of affordable and open market homes along with significant training opportunities and investment for the local economy.

Lovell’s Eastern region, based in Leeds anticipates starting construction work on the Thorp Arch site, which forms part of the trading estate of the name, in October this year.

The development, which will take around three years to complete and has a gross development value of £30,690,000, will comprise a total of 119 homes, 42 of which will be affordable available via a Registered Provider.

Lovell says it has been working with Leeds City Council and Homes England to develop a scheme appropriate for this site.

Robert Adams, regional managing director for Lovell Eastern, said: “This site will provide much needed homes for the community along with jobs and investment.

“We would like to thank Homes England for the work done to ensure that we were able to purchase the site quickly, enabling us to get started on the planning process.”
