Developer behind 133-home scheme to improve highways network

The Yorkshire division of national homebuilder, Bellway, is to fund road safety improvements in Menston during the building of its St John’s View development on the village’s Bingley Road.

The work being funded by Bellway includes replacing old road signs and improving footpaths in the vicinity of the development.

Money will also go towards resurfacing local roads and the implementation of speed plateaus, which will aid the reduction of traffic speed on Bingley Road.

Jim Brooks, Bellway Yorkshire’s managing director, said: “It’s great to know that our funding can enable important local projects like these to come to fruition.

“By improving signage, footpaths and road surfaces, and introducing new speed reduction measures in Menston we really are helping to improve the community for residents both new and old.”

Bellway’s community funding in Menston is part of its Section 106 agreement with Leeds City Council.

“In addition to the infrastructure measures, the company will also provide 40 affordable housing plots on-site for local authority use.

Brooks added: “Section 106 funding is ear-marked for different local projects wherever we build a new development.

“We recently discussed funding from our new South Cave development with Hull City Council, and it’s likely the money will be split between providing additional parking spaces at a local school, improving communal sports pitches, and delivering a number of affordable housing properties on the site.”

When built St John’s View will comprise 133 three, four and five-bedroom semi-detached, detached and town houses.
