Progress celebrated at city apartments development

A topping out ceremony has been held on site at The Ironworks, in Leeds, to celebrate the milestone.

Senior representatives from Esh Construction, Howard Civil Engineering, and Igloo were on site to witness the pour of the final reinforced concrete slab on level six of the apartment block, completing the reinforced concrete framework.

The Ironworks is a development of 68 energy efficient homes delivered by Esh’s commercial build division on behalf of PfP igloo.

Due for completion in summer 2021, each home will have its own outdoor space, which will open onto the creative, independent neighbourhood of Holbeck Urban Village.

The development got underway in November 2019 and Howard Civil Engineering was appointed by Esh as the sub-contractor to construct the reinforced concrete frame which will become home to 51 apartments and two penthouses.

This scheme marks the first time Howard Civil Engineering and Esh have worked together.

Michael Howard, managing director at Howard Civil Engineering, said: “Howard Civil Engineering are very proud to have supported Esh Construction in the delivery of this impressive residential development in the heart of the city of Leeds.

“A collaborative and proactive working relationship has enabled the frame to be successfully completed one month ahead of schedule.

“This is an enormous testament to the hard work and endeavour of both Howard Civil Engineering and Esh Construction, moreover with the challenges of Covid-19.”

Allan Irvine, senior project manager at Esh Construction, said: “The Ironworks project delivery team have worked through the difficulties resulting from Covid-19 by following the Government and workplace guidelines to maintain a safe working environment and achieve this key milestone ahead of schedule.

“The team have a sense of togetherness, a united attitude and a willingness to safeguard and protect each other along our journey. Teamwork at its best.”

Speaking on behalf of Igloo, development director for the project, Honor Massarella, said: “We’re delighted to have reached this major milestone in the development of The Ironworks.

“The entire team both on and off site has worked tirelessly throughout a challenging few months, enabling us to reach this key moment in the build not just on time, but early.

“Since the first homes went on sale in July we have seen a significant amount of interest, and we’re looking forward to bringing potential buyers to the site in the near future so they can see for themselves just how much of a fantastic place to live The Ironworks will be.”
