Revised plans published for new supermarket

Lidl GB is consulting on revised plans for a new store in Huddersfield, ahead of submitting a planning application to Kirklees Council.

It follows a decision by the council to refuse earlier proposals for the development.

If successful, the latest proposals will see the former Spotted Cow pub site brought back into use whilst enhancing shopping choice locally and creating up to 40 new jobs for the local area.

Details of the planned development can be found at www.lidl-newheyroad.com where an online feedback form is also available.

Lidl says its previous planning application for a new store on this site was “well received” by the community.

Following the refusal decision of Kirklees Council’s Strategic Planning Committee last year, Lidl notes the planning application now includes improvements to the design of the store building and boundary wall to incorporate more natural stone.

Lidl’s regional property director, Robert Beaumont, said: “The response we’ve had from the local community has been extremely encouraging and I would like to thank everyone who has supported us so far.

“We strongly believe that local residents will benefit from the added shopping choice and competition that a Lidl store on New Hey Road will offer.

“The site has been derelict for some years now and a new supermarket will not only regenerate this site and create jobs for the local area, it will also complement existing shops in Salendine Nook Local Centre.

“We’re grateful for the continued support and remain committed to working with the council so that we can bring this new store to the community.

“We hope that as many people as possible are able to join us for this ‘virtual’ public consultation. We look forward to sharing and discussing our plans with everyone.”
