Automotive brand is living the American Dream
Twisted North America, the US arm of North Yorkshire-based Twisted Automotive, is celebrating its first half-year of business with over $3m (£2.3m) in sales.
And the company is on target to book sales of $7.5m (£5.7m) in its first 12 months.
The global Land Rover Defender® modification specialist officially started trading from its 40,000 sq ft base in South Boston, Virginia, in April 2020 at the start of the pandemic.
The business was acquired by entrepreneur Tom Maxwell who secured a seven-figure investment to operate Twisted North America under licence from the company’s founder, Charles Fawcett.
Launching into the US market with a limited run of 200 Twisted NA-V8 vehicles, the business has already overachieved against its projected sales targets.
The vehicle is available in five different body styles, including soft top and double-cab with an all-electric version also projected to launch later in the year – over 50% of this limited run has already been pre-ordered.
Twisted is gearing up for further US expansion with a new showroom and workshop launching in Austin, Texas, in December 2020.
An additional 50 acres of land has also been secured outside of the city for further facility development.
The business says it aims to have a coast-to-coast presence by the end of 2021, with discussions ongoing for showrooms in California, New York, and Miami.
As well as the new showroom, Twisted North America has made a significant investment in personnel, with 25 new appointments being made since launching in April including sales, marketing and technical staff.
Maxwell, who now holds the role of Twisted North America CEO, said: “The past six months have been a strange time for many businesses.
“Despite all the uncertainty and upheaval, Twisted North America has been able to adapt to the change and has delivered fantastic results and is well on the way to hitting $7.5m in sales in the first year.
“The team has adjusted to the logistical changes that the pandemic has had on the business and really risen to the challenge and this can be seen in the results we’ve had.
“We are committed to delivering an end-product that exceeds our customers’ expectations while building on the international following of the Twisted brand and increase its sales around the globe.”
All UK Twisted vehicle and specification options are available in the US, including petrol V8 on a 90, 110 or 130 wheelbase, with an LT engine, with prices starting from $250,000.
Elements of modification take place in Yorkshire with completion and vehicle handover carried out in the US.
