New charity aims to tackle climate change through education and re-forestation

A new charity inviting people across the UK to show their support for tackling climate change by wearing a green jumper as part of a new initiative.

Green Jumper, has been established as an accessible and fun way for more people to engage in the serious subject of climate change. The charity wants the whole of Britain to help raise awareness about climate change by getting involved in the first “Green Jumper Day” on 26th February 2021.

The aim of the day is for people to turn down the heating and keep warm in a jumper and raise money for Green Jumper causes including climate change education and re-forestation.

Alec Walton, chief executive of Green Jumper, said: “Climate change is still the biggest threat to our world. On Green Jumper Day, we are asking everyone, from big businesses to independent shops, schools and councils to get involved.

“We’re encouraging people to turn down the thermostat a few degrees just for one day, stay warm in a jumper and make a donation to help raise awareness of climate change and help make a positive difference. If people wear a green jumper to show their support, even better, if they can post pictures on social media with #greenjumperday, better still.

Gyles Behbood, owner of Thompsons Accountants, and Green Jumpers’ auditors, added: “We are delighted to offer our services and to get behind the Green Jumper initiatives. Everyone needs to do their bit to combat climate change, but many don’t know how.

“Green Jumper Day is the perfect way to raise awareness. The money raised will go towards books, and talks, to help educate school children, as well as planting trees. We want Green Jumper Day to be an annual event, right up there with Red Nose day and Children in Need.”

Walton added: “We are awaiting confirmation of our full Charitable status, but climate change won’t wait, so please get involved. Contact us at www.greenjumperday.com.”
