Work begins on 241-bed student accommodation development

Property development and investment firm, Mount Property Group, has broken ground on its 241-bed student scheme in Sheffield city centre.
The site is close to Fitzalan Square and next to the Sheffield Hallam Institute of Arts building on Pond Street.
Liverpool-based Mount Group Construction says the development is scheduled for completion for the 2022 academic year.
It will consist of 228 en-suite rooms and 13 studios, with ground floor amenity spaces including a student reception area, study lounge, coffee shop and bike store.
Managing director of Mount Property Group, Michael Chrysokhou, said: “Sheffield is undoubtedly one of the country’s most notable university cities, a magnet for students and a centre for education.
“In such a central location to both Sheffield Hallam and the city centre, we’re anticipating this will be one of our fastest selling sites.
“Despite the short-term challenges operators are currently facing, it is widely accepted the student accommodation market has the long-term resilience to weather the storm, owing to the resilience of UK higher education market and the accommodation that supports it.”
Barry Horne, director at Clancy Consulting which is providing civil and structural engineering design services on the project, said: “This exciting student accommodation scheme in Sheffield is our second with Mount Property Group, and continues the relationship following our involvement on Innovo House in Liverpool.
“Having graduated from Sheffield University myself, I’m thrilled to be involved with this development, which supports Sheffield’s buoyant student living market and will create a high-quality ‘home from home’ for students.”
