Recycling business rises from the ashes

Almost a year since a devastating Christmas Day fire badly damaged Brocklesby’s North Cave site, the waste cooking oil recycling company is well on its way to recovery.

This is despite also having to cope with the pandemic and subsequent periods of lockdown.

Although no one was injured in last December’s fire, it massively impacted the company’s operations.

The business says it was able to make improvisations to its operations and continue to serve customers, with no jobs lost.

Many of Brocklesby’s customers are large food manufacturers and the company supported this essential industry during lockdown.

Brocklesby owner, Rob Brocklesby, said: “Recovering from a fire alongside a pandemic, we could never have anticipated any of this but I’m so thankful we not only had robust emergency plans, but crucially a fantastic team to get us through.

“Our recovery has been testament to our team, their tremendous work ethic and commitment to our customers, as they’ve adapted, persevered and continued to provide excellent service.”

Despite the problems of the last 12 months, the company has seen continued success, achieving a 16% increase in volume sold this year.

Brocklesby added: “Working under incredible pressure, staff adapted quickly, demonstrating courage and conviction as they continued attending food manufacturing plants and our own site to continue operations through lockdown.

“We still have a long way to go to recover from what has been an incredibly challenging year. However we’re proud to be what some may say, ‘a phoenix from the ashes’, coming back bigger, stronger and ready to serve.”
