Plans unveiled for 72 more houses and a care home

An application has been submitted for a new housing scheme and a care home in the North Leeds suburb of Adel, following a public consultation.

The proposals are for 72 homes and an 86 bed care home. These are intended to regenerate the derelict site and former school buildings on East Moor Lane.

Plans have been jointly submitted by two businesses; Advent Developments, a residential property builder and St Mary’s Care, a provider of care home services across the region.

If approved, there will be 28 homes within the listed quadrangle of the former school buildings and chapel, and 44 contemporary styled new build homes, in addition to the care home.

Tim Reeve, managing director of Advent Developments, said: “The East Moor site and buildings is a real historic gem which has sadly deteriorated significantly in recent years.

“It is fully surrounded by mature trees which will be maintained, and we have responded to the wishes expressed by the community during the positive consultation period by incorporating high-quality design principles in keeping with the environment, along with landscaping improvements.

“Enhanced footpaths and cycle ways, as well as improved access to the Meanwood Valley Local Nature Reserve, are also included in the plans.”

Richard Hoggart, CEO of St Mary’s Care, added: “St Mary’s is committed to delivering exceptional person-centred care provision in the areas we serve, offering its residents a market-leading environment in terms of comfort and care while they stay with us.

“There is an acknowledged shortage of care home beds in the Adel area and we expect this superb new facility will help alleviate that.”

Adel councillor Barry Anderson said: “The East Moor Lane site and buildings have been a long-time blight on the community.

“We both welcome and support this high quality and well considered sustainable scheme which is exactly what we want to see.”

The detailed plans for the housing scheme and re-development of the school buildings were produced for Advent Developments by architectural practice West & Machell.

The care home plans for St Mary’s Care were produced by Jackson Design Associates.
