There’s changes afoot off field at Harrogate Town Football Club.

The club which gained attention when, in the wake of Covid lockdowns it secured its place in the English Football League, was until recently controlled by Strata Plus – part of Strata Homes. The house builder’s former boss, Irving Weaver took control of the then struggling football club in 2011, two years after his son Simon, became coach, with his tenure as as chairman marked by success on and off the pitch  including a new £400,000 main stand.

However, fillings with Companies House show that on Thursday, Strata Plus ceased to be “a person with significant control” of the club. At the same documents were filed stating Irving was now “a person with significant control”.

It would appear that the club and the housebuilder are tidying up corporate structures, with the changes at Harrogate Town correlating with changes at the Doncaster-based Strata Homes. Irving has stepped down as a director of the company as well as Strata Plus, while son, Andrew, the current chief executive of the Strata Homes has been appointed a director of Strata Plus.

The changes come the team sit in the middle of League Two ahead of Yorkshire rivals Bradford City with with 14 wins out of 34 matches – although The Bantams have two games in hand. The North Yorkshire team will also compete for the 2019/20 Buildbase FA Trophy on 3 May, with the original final scheduled for 27 September being postponed due to Covid-19 restrictions
