Three’s the magic number for sustainable meat company

John Pallagi, founder and CEO of Farmison

Farmison & Co, the sustainable online meat company that connects farms directly to customers, has revealed that 2020 was a year where three was the magic number.

The Ripon-based business has continued a strong growth story over 2020, with a three fold increase in both new and returning customer as well as tripling the size of its workforce.

The firm which recently appointed KPMG to explore strategic options for the high growth business saw revenue more than double to £12.1m as it benefited from an increase interest amongst consumers in sustainability as well as how and where food is produced.

The lockdown year also resulted in an almost tripling of e-commerce sales from £3.4m to £10m as the move to online shopping accelerated further.

John Pallagi, Farmison & Co CEO and founder said: “Last year’s obstacles caused us to slow down, hibernate and appreciate our families more than ever. Many of us have used that that gift of time, to cook at home and seek food that tastes great and is better for our environment.”

He also thanked the firms customers for “helping sustain responsible farming that’s in balance with the beautiful landscapes of our farmers across Yorkshire, Lancashire and Cumbria.”

Looking ahead, the firm which was founded in 2011, has plans for continued growth to mark its tenth anniversary – with the aim of accessing new investment to support rapid growth, marketing, international expansion and operational innovation.

Pallagi added: “I believe the reputation of sustainably reared British meat across the world has never been higher.

“So that’s why, as we look for new trading arrangements with the world, we should be putting our best farmers at the heart of new trade deals.

“The quality of our meat, our sustainable husbandry, our heritage breeds are legendary across the world – I look forward to helping our policy-makers understand that better.”
