Growing law firm Truth Legal – which launched nine years ago with a single solicitor – has opened a new Leeds office, specialising in immigration law.

Located on Calls Wharf, the new office is being headed by experienced immigration lawyer, Louis MacWilliam, who joined the Truth two years ago, he will be joined by a team of three.

The firm was founded in Harrogate in 2012 by Andrew Gray, who turned his back on a career with a national firm of solicitors in order to create a “tenacious and affordable law firm”, over the last nine years it has grown and now employs over 20 people across its two offices.

MacWilliam, a co-owner of Truth Legal, studied law at Leeds University and previously worked at Blacks Solicitors in the city, as head of immigration, and also spent four years at leading human rights London law firm, Bindmans. He is a part-time lecturer at The University of Law, and regularly delivers immigration training to businesses, members associations and international students.

Gray said: “The opening of our Leeds office marks a new and exciting chapter in the Truth Legal story, and I’m delighted that we have now made our debut on the Leeds legal scene.

“We have chosen Calls Wharf because of its location, the ability for us to expand within it, and it being slightly away from the traditional legal area of Park Row.

“Since Brexit, there has been a surge of enquiries, hence us opening our Leeds office and taking on more staff to handle the cases. Louis is a superb lawyer and adept at handling complex immigration law queries. He is supported by a great team and, as the case work grows, so too will his team.

“Truth Legal has come a long way in a relatively short period time. Our clients range from individuals right through to large institutions, and we can justifiably say that we punch well above our weight.”

MacWilliam added: “Leeds is recognised as a major legal hub, and I’m delighted Truth Legal has now added its name to the roll call of practices operating in the city.

“Much of our work is a consequence of Brexit, from EU citizens seeking to become UK citizens, UK residents wanting family members to join them, and businesses looking to employ skilled workers, in particular senior care workers and chefs. We also assist with challenges to Home Office visa refusals.

“And whilst most of our work comes from within the Yorkshire region, our reach is nationwide, and we are now acting for major UK companies and EU companies doing business in the UK.

“Thanks to the universities, there is a multitude of young, legal talent looking for their first job in the legal sector, and because of our values and the way we do business, we aim for Truth Legal to be a law firm that they naturally gravitate to.”
