‘Double investment’ as developer targets prominent city locations

Planning applications have been submitted by developer Grantside, for ambitious proposals on two prominent Sheffield sites.

The company, founded in 1993 but relaunched earlier this year with a focus on sustainability and integrity, is behind new office proposals on Charles and Norfolk Streets in the city centre and co-living/co-working space at Bowling Green Street, Kelham Island.

The office proposal – known as 39 Charles + Norfolk Street – aims to assist Sheffield City Council meet its carbon-neutral targets by creating modern, Grade-A office space with sustainability at its core.

The net zero-carbon ready building will regenerate a prime site, within the city’s commercial quarter.

It will incorporate an element of retail space at the ground floor, alongside reception space.

Nine floors of office space will incorporate modern features such as external terraced spaces with views of nearby listed buildings and the Peace Gardens.

The second planning application is for ‘Hive Central’, a new concept of co-living and working space at Bowling Green Street in the Kelham Island district.

Hive Central proposes small commercial spaces alongside shared facilities, a covered courtyard and private apartments with a shared rooftop terrace.

Hive Central Sheffield aspires to be a net zero carbon development, and the developers are exploring the use of modern materials which absorb carbon and which have a high recyclable content.

Grantside CEO Steve Davis said: “Low impact and sustainable development is a core principle of Grantside and for me personally. It is central to everything that we do.

“These are two exceptional and contrasting projects which, if approved, will deliver significant new employment and homes within Sheffield.

“It’s unusual for one company to have two ambitious, high quality and high profile projects reach fruition at the same time in the same city, but we are delighted to be making this double investment.

“Sheffield is an evolving and growing city, and we are seeing serious demand for new office space in the city centre, and live/work artisan space in the fantastic Kelham Island district.

“We look forward to working with Sheffield City Council as these proposals progress.”
