Mixed use scheme intends to breathe new life into brownfield site

A planning application has been submitted for a mixed-use development on the brownfield former Crosslee site, in Hipperholme.

The masterplan for the site has been developed to cover a mix of uses, with a forecasted investment of more than £60m.

This includes a care home and a McCarthy and Stone retirement village, employment and commercial space, a European supermarket and up to 106 new homes

An extensive public consultation process was launched in April to explain the vision of the plans and seek feedback from the community.

Five acres of the site will be dedicated to creating employment space in units ranging in size from 5,380 sq ft to 20,450 sq ft, suitable for small and medium sized businesses.

The care home and retirement village, together with the supermarket, is expected to result in the creation of 120 to 150 jobs.

It is envisaged the employment and industrial units will also create additional jobs for local residents.

A spokesman for Crosslee said: “Submitting the outline planning application is a major landmark to bring this important site back into use and we were encouraged with the feedback from the consultation process.

“Our vision is to create a vibrant new community that represents a massive investment of over £60m into the Hipperholme and Lightcliffe area, as well as providing modern employment space for local businesses to thrive.”
