Buoyant first half for management consultancy

Peter Ahye

Management consultancy Hexagon Consultants says the first half of 2021 has been a very busy period as it confirmed its involvement in two projects of worldwide significance.

Leeds-headquartered Hexagon has provided a broad range of support to Sheffield Forgemasters as the business navigated its future and ultimately secured a landmark change of ownership to the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and £400m investment deal last week. The team is also providing supply chain management expertise to the Vaccine Task Force, supporting the successful nationwide roll-out of the Covid-19 vaccine alongside national healthcare partners and suppliers.

CEO Peter Ahye, who co-founded Hexagon in 2015 with managing director Sue Williams, said: “We’re delighted to be working with these major clients to support them with strategic work which is placing the UK on the global map for two very different reasons. The Sheffield Forgemasters deal is a once in a generation transaction to have been involved with. It secures the firm’s future and its role as a critical supplier to the next generation of UK Defence programmes.

“Meanwhile, the Covid Vaccine Task Force programme is ensuring that our nationwide response to the pandemic can help to boost the country’s post-Covid recovery. This is something that the UK has led the way with globally and we’re pleased to play our part in ensuring a smooth and efficient roll-out programme.”

The Hexagon team also provided complex multi-stakeholder strategic and substantial other cross functional support for both clients. Williams has been leading the supply chain assurance and the planning and modelling teams for the Vaccine Task Force. This has included mapping and assessing the vaccine supply chain and managing the detailed planning and scheduling of the vaccine supply for the UK. Work for Sheffield Forgemasters included programme management, financial modelling, procurement and technical expertise in building the options and the final business case.

Stephen Hammell, CFO at Sheffield Forgemasters, said: “This is a significant milestone in the history of our business and it required trusted, strategic hands-on delivery support at every stage. Hexagon’s knowledge, ability to hit strict deadlines and close working relationships with our people were invaluable. They got to grips with relevant facets of our business and worked with us through the complexities demonstrating professionalism and rigour throughout.”

Reflecting on a significant year so far, Ahye added that Hexagon was continuing to work on major national and regional projects with a growing roster of clients.

Ahye added: “It’s been a buoyant first half of the year across multiple sectors as businesses look to implement major strategic plans which support long-term objectives post pandemic. While the past few years have been worrying for many sectors, we’re seeing a huge amount of resilience across all of our client base.

“In addition to M&A advisory and supply chain management, our expertise in transformational people change programmes have been particularly called upon in recent months. We pride ourselves on becoming an extension of every client’s business, providing bandwidth to senior teams throughout complex strategic projects.”
