Founding partner of TheBusinessDesk.com recognised as an icon

Colin Glass

One of the founding partners of TheBusinessDesk.com has been named as the regional winner of the Icon of the Year title at the Barclays Bank Entrepreneur Awards 2021.

Colin Glass OBE a consultant at Murray Harcourt chartered accountants, is now part of the shortlist for the national finals on 21 October.

Glass was nominated by Karen Murphy, Yorkshire relationship director, SME UK— Business Banking who said: “Having known Colin for many years and worked with him with mutual clients, I believe her personifies the definition of Icon , namely ‘a person widely admired, especially for having great influence’.

It was noted that his passion was to advise and help start-ups and small businesses capable of significance growth, with it eventually leading to him starting his own accountancy practice, Winburn Glass Norfolk (WGN) together with two co-founding partners in 1975. During this time and believing he could add serious value to certain client companies from his increasing knowledge and experience, and growing list of contacts, he was prepared to defer his fees and to subscribe for a small minority stake in those companies.

In the intervening four decades Colin has helped many start up companies and SMEs, assisting some to float on the AIM market , and several others to exit via a trade sale.

In August 2019, 44 years since its formation , WGN merged with Murray Harcourt, with Glass noting at the time that the firms had “a similar ethos”.

On his award win he said: “I am very proud to have been successful as the regional winner of Icon of the Year, and I am looking forward to the final for the national award. I am most grateful to Karen Murphy for nominating me”
