Pharmacy changes hands after 14 years

A pharmacy business in North Yorkshire has a new owner after it was sold was for an undisclosed sum.

Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co, has confirmed the sale of Harrops Pharmacy in Saltburn-by-the-Sea.

Harrops Pharmacy dispensed an average of 10,700 items per month in 2020 and is located on the main street in Loftus.

For the last 14 years, Harrops Pharmacy has been owned and run by four pharmacists, who decided to sell due to the long commute from the Tyne & Wear area where they live. It has been purchased by a local group operator, which has been keen to acquire the business for a long time.

Karl Clezy, director at Christie & Co, who handled the sale, said: “The interest in this pharmacy was very strong, buoyed by the fact that item numbers had increased significantly during 2019 and 2020.

“Four buyers, two of which were group operators, were very keen to acquire the pharmacy, resulting in a competitive bidding process.

“During the pandemic last year and this year so far, we have received an increase in enquiries for pharmacies in this area. There continues to be a lack of supply on the market.”
