Screen Yorkshire announces new chief executive

Screen Yorkshire  has appointed its new chief executive following the news that its current boss, Sally Joynson will retire at the end of 2021 after 16 years at the helm.

Joynson who is credited with relaunching and rebuilding the company as a standalone enterprise, following the closure of the regional screen agencies in 2010 will be replaced by Caroline Cooper Charles.

Cooper Charles appointment will see her promoted from her existing role within the organisation as its head of creative, and follows a search which attracted a wide range of diverse candidates from across the UK and beyond.

Commenting on the appointment she said: “Since joining Screen Yorkshire in 2018, I have found it an immensely welcoming, remarkable and inspiring place to work. The company has such an important role in ensuring that the screen industries in Yorkshire & Humber continue to thrive and grow in a manner which reflects the fantastic talent that we have in our region.”

Cooper Charles has over 25-years experience within the screen industries, with roles including running a production company with acclaimed music video director Dawn Shadforth, head of film at Creative England, and roles with the UK Film Council and as the director of the Sheffield International Documentary Festival.

Cooper Charles will take up the new role on 1st January 2022.
