Hundreds of homes planned for 26 hectare site

A residential development featuring up to 390 homes has been proposed for land to the south of Barton-upon-Humber.

Banks Property has been developing proposals for the 26.3 hectare site to the east of the A15 and south of Horkstow Road which would include homes of different sizes and types, including affordable housing and bungalows.

The family firm has been holding a series of public engagement activities on the proposals over the last few months, with the feedback received from local people and community leaders being factored into the evolving project plans.

A planning application was submitted to North Lincolnshire Council at the end of November and is expected to come before its planning committee next year.

The project plans also include more than 15 hectares of additional public open space, which equates to close to 60% of the total site area, as well as new footpaths, wetland areas, wildlife habitats and local road links.

A children’s play park and outdoor exercise area will be included, while funding will be allocated to ensure a regular full day bus service serves the site and south of the town to provide a sustainable connection to the wider community and to enable onward connections by bus and rail.

Part of The Banks Group, Banks Property develops brownfield and greenfield land for commercial and residential property schemes across the north of England and Scotland.

The Barton development is the first project to be led by the team in the firm’s new Yorkshire office, which has been set up to help enhance the firm’s presence right across Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire.

John Ruddick, senior property development manager at Banks Property, says: “Gathering local people’s views is a central part of the development of all our proposals, and we’ve done everything possible in the current circumstances to make information about our plans easily accessible and to enable local people to express their views and ideas about them.

“The feedback we’ve had on the sorts of community, environmental and transport enhancements that local people would like to see delivered through the development, as well as on the make-up of the development itself, has been extremely useful.

“Our goal has been to design a development in Barton in consultation with the local community that brings a range of economic, employment, environmental, supply chain and social benefits to the area, and we believe the plans we have put forward achieve this objective.

“Increasing the supply of quality housing is a crucial part of ensuring people can choose to move to or stay in the places where they want to live.”
