Thai cuisine brand set to open its sixth restaurant

Sheffield people will soon be able to experience the flavours of authentic Bangkok street food, as Zaap Thai plans to bring its brand of casual dining to the city this spring.

Its new restaurant is at 521-523 Eccleshall Road and follows hot on the heels of the success Zaap has enjoyed with its Leeds, Nottingham, Newcastle, York & Headingley ventures, making this its sixth site in seven years.

Guests can expect Thai-inspired graffiti, tuk tuk seating booths, neon lighting and an open kitchen lined with Thai hawker carts.

There will be over 80 dishes to choose from. Thai street food classics on offer include the ever-popular Pad Thai and the spicy Pad Ga Prao.

And the menu also offers visitors a chance to try something new, such as the Som Tum Thai Spicy Papaya Salad or Hoy Tod Crispy Mussel Pancake.

The drinks menu spans beers including Singha and Leo, a collection of Asian cocktail creations, coffee by 200 Degrees and a range of Bubble Teas with flavours ranging from Thai Milk Tea to Lychee Fruit Tea.

The opening will create around 20 new jobs in Sheffield, ranging from management to waiting staff.

Zaap Thai is part of the wider Sukho Group, which currently has eight other restaurants in its portfolio.

Head chef and owner, Ban, was born in Thailand and moved to the UK over 20 years ago.

She opened her first Sukhothai restaurant in Leeds 20 years ago this year, with the first Zaap landing in Leeds back in 2015.

She said: “We’ve been looking for a location in Sheffield for a number of years. It’s been at the top of our priority list and we’ve finally found a fantastic site on Ecclesall Road after years of searching.

“Sheffield is a fantastic city with a rich history and diverse population, and we believe a great fit for Zaap. The restaurant is currently undergoing a major fit out and will be unrecognisable when we come to open in spring.”
