Discount retailer to grow city footprint with two more store openings

Poundland is opening two new large stores in Sheffield.

The first is at Heeley Retail Park, Chesterfield Road, to the south of the city, which is due to open on 12 March. Details of the second store, due to open in April, will be confirmed in the next few weeks.

The business already operates six stores in Sheffield, including in the Meadowhall shopping centre.

Both new stores will offer PEP&CO branded clothing and home furnishings, along with chilled and frozen food.

At Sheffield Heeley, Poundland is taking the lease on units 2A and 2B formerly occupied by Bargain Buys and Poundstretcher, which have been converted into a single 12,500 sq ft unit.

This is more than twice the size of a typical 6,000 sq ft Poundland store and it will employ 18 people.

Poundland acquired Fultons Foods in 2020 and some of the roles at the new stores have been offered to workers from Fultons stores in Sheffield, which were earmarked earlier this year for closure.

Poundland retail and transformation director, Austin Cooke, said: “Sheffield is one of the UK’s great cities and one where we’ve built up a tremendous relationship with our customers.

“Sheffield Heeley Retail Park and the other new Sheffield store will be a great addition to our network of stores in the city and across Yorkshire. They’re both large stores and they’ve been carefully designed so customers will see Poundland at its best.”
