Northern FD Awards launched to recognise outstanding finance leaders in Yorkshire

The Northern Finance Director Awards are back for 2022.

Nominations are now open, recognising and celebrating the exceptional talent of finance directors and their teams across the North of England.

2021 brought new challenges to business leaders as they continued to grapple with the pandemic, Brexit and a turbulent global position. From supply chain issues, talent shortages, rising inflation and navigating a post-pandemic world, 2021 had it all.

The awards will once again recognise the enterprise, leadership, resilience, social impact and all-round excellence of the financial directors, chief financial officers, and financial teams in Northern businesses across 14 different categories.

New to the 2022 awards roster is the Northern Finance Team of the Year award. This award allows for the entire finance team to be recognised and celebrated for the important contribution they play in businesses.

In addition, a new ESG Champion award has been added to the programme to celebrate those finance leaders who have demonstrated the need for their organisation to conduct themselves responsibly, making a positive contribution to the environment, society and their own governance programme.

Nominations can be submitted via http://www.northernfdawards.co.uk/

The awards are open to finance directors in all industries, whether working for a fast-growing SME or an innovative PLC, as well as for the benefit of the wider region. The shortlists will be announced in July, and the winners announced in September during the awards ceremony.

The awards are once again being sponsored by business advisers Grant Thornton UK LLP, global law firm Squire Patton Boggs and recruitment firm Michael Page.

Emma Davies, partner at Grant Thornton in Yorkshire, said: “We have seen over the last two years how CFOs/FDs have had to respond to a rapidly-evolving business landscape, be that Brexit or the pandemic.

“Disruption and uncertainty has almost become the new normal in 2022 as severe inflation, labour shortages and other global macro-economic factors are continuing to challenge UK plc.

“We saw in the 2021 that with grit, agility and tenacity many Yorkshire FDs are rising to the many challenges they face, and I am looking forward to hearing more inspiring stories and celebrating success during this year’s awards.”

Hannah Kendrick, corporate partner, Leeds at law firm Squire Patton Boggs, said: “We are delighted to once again be a headline sponsor of the Northern Finance Director Awards.

“This has been a staple awards program in the finance community for many years now, and continues to gain momentum across the North, attracting renowned businesses, new enterprises, and household name brands to a sterling repertoire of nominees.

“Following a turbulent 24 months, we are intrigued to learn how businesses have navigated this period whether it be through restructuring, growth, or innovation.

“Moreover, we intend to create a platform for finance professionals and their team to receive the rightful recognition they deserve for their performance during this time. Needless to say, there has never been a more appropriate or deserved time to celebrate the finance leaders of the North.

“The addition of our new ESG Champion award is particularly exciting, as this is an area of huge focus across all sectors, and finance leaders so often play a crucial role in the delivery of a business’s ESG strategy.”

John Halton, associate partner, Page Executive, said: “It’s a great pleasure to again be involved in these awards and to get to recognise the fantastic finance leadership talent we have in the region.

“As we moved from the depths of the pandemic and the problems and also some opportunities that presented, to a post-pandemic economy – finance leaders yet again had to adapt to a new trading environment and pivot their skills, focus and businesses to make sure of, in some cases survival, and in others maximising growth.”

“We look forward once again to learning how they have risen to the challenge and hearing the stories that never fail to impress.”
