Draft plans revealed for discount supermarket and care home

Lidl GB has launched a public consultation on draft plans to deliver a new store and care home at the Mercure Wetherby site, in Wetherby Road.

The multi-million pound plans would include a modern supermarket with a 15,000 sq ft sales area.

The proposed care home would be a 72-bed property and there would also be 22 one and two-bed extra care apartments.

Lidl says it has received interest from a number of care home operators and this part of the site would be developed in conjunction with a care provider.

Dedicated car parking spaces for neighbouring residents are also proposed.

There will be significant planting across the site and new “landscape buffers” to the north and west boundaries.

People can view information about the draft plans and leave feedback at the consultation website: wetherby.expansion.lidl.co.uk

A spokesman for Lidl GB said: “We have been looking to bring a Lidl store to Wetherby for some time. We are excited by the prospect of opening a new store on Wetherby Road and hope as many people as possible are able to participate in our public consultation.

“We look forward to sharing our plans and receiving feedback from local residents.”

If approved, the new supermarket will form part of the company’s ongoing £1.3bn investment across the UK in 2021 and 2022.
