Winter Garden aiming to capture German Christmas market spirit

The Green Room independent bar and social space, in central Leeds, is poised to unveil its new Winter Garden this Friday – 21 October.

The launch coincides with the release of an expanded menu created to get people in the festive mood.

Designed to fill the gap left by the absence of the Leeds German market, the roof terrace has been transformed into a winter haven which is fully covered, complete with fire pits, heat lamps covering the roof top and Yorkshire wool blankets.

Guests will be able to enjoy a limited-edition German-style pilsner, brewed exclusively by Kirkstall Brewery and served in traditional steins.

The afternoon/evening food selection includes a Bratwurst Vegan-Dog featuring a Moving Mountains sausage and is topped with sauerkraut, mustard, ketchup, onions, and pickles, while the Currywurst Vegan-Dog is served with fries, pickled cabbage, coriander, onions, and chilli.

The BBQ Vegan Quarter Pounder includes a Moving Mountains patty and comes topped with vegan mozzarella.

Green Room has also introduced a tempting selection of meat-based dishes, including a Bratwurst, Currywurst, Buffalo Chicken Burger and Loaded Cheese and Bacon Fries.

Its daytime menu has also been updated with meat-based versions of some of Green Room’s bestselling dishes.

Green Room, which is in Wellington Street next to the Channel 4 HQ, will continue to host a roster of local DJs, as well as plenty of live entertainment throughout the season.

Director Will Habergham said: “We couldn’t have really asked for a better summer 2022 – not only did we get to enjoy our fair share of sunshine, but the people of Leeds really took to our concept, and we’ve had an exceptionally busy few months.

“I’m confident our regulars will love what we’ve done with the Winter Garden, especially those that have been pining for the return of the beloved Christmas markets.

“Our terrace has been transformed into a cosy space that’s perfect for enjoying a few steins, a Bratwurst and some great entertainment with friends and colleagues.

“We’ll also continue to serve up favourites from our Gron menu and have even added some incredible meat-based dishes to ensure nobody is left out.”
