Planning granted for 970 homes following successful appeal

Developer Redrow will move forward with plans for around 970 homes in York, after a successful appeal decision.

Redrow says the 164-acre garden village development in Huntington, which now has outline planning permission, will help meet an “urgent need” for new housing in the area.

Proposals for the site include a wide variety of one, two, three, four and five-bedroom homes, including a 30% allocation of affordable homes, and amenities such as a primary school, sports pitches and a shop.

There will also be a country park and other public green spaces.

Redrow adds that it will look to submit a reserved matters planning application in 2023, which will include a detailed phasing plan to show how the scheme and major infrastructure will be delivered. The whole scheme is expected to take around 10 years to complete.

The company’s Yorkshire’s land and planning director, Traci Moore, said: “This decision is a huge milestone and this development will be a real flagship for the division.

“Redrow has several major garden village developments underway across the country, including the outstanding example at Woodford Garden Village in Cheshire, which has been created in line with our placemaking principles.

“Our garden villages combine a wide range of meticulously designed, quality homes with opportunities for leisure, recreation and play and our development in York will be no different. It will be a highly desirable place to live.”
