Property people: Caddick Construction Group; Honey; and more

Caddick Construction Group has made a series of senior appointments and promotions, strengthening the business’s regional expertise as it presses ahead with plans to expand across the North in 2023.

The team growth has seen the appointment of Neil Trubshaw and Sue Currey as construction group commercial director and HR business partner respectively, both with a remit across the Caddick Construction Group.

Internal promotions also include Adam Tucker as design director for the Construction Group and Andrew Clarkson, who has been appointed as construction director. Both will oversee Caddick Construction Yorkshire and the North East.

Each with a career spanning approximately 20 years, the four appointments represent a move by Caddick Construction to grow its project portfolio, enhance its position as a leading contractor and position the business as an employer of choice.

Trubshaw brings 24 years of construction industry experience to the role and will be instrumental to portfolio growth and adding value to the business’ current capabilities and governance.

He joins from Wates Construction where he climbed from assistant surveyor to commercial director.

Currey joins as HR business partner with a remit to support future growth. Key priorities include developing strategies for attracting, developing and retaining talent as well as investment in training.

Her previous experience includes overseeing Equans’ facilities management contract on behalf of His Majesty’s Courts & Tribunals Service, which included the mobilisation of a team of 1,500 during the pandemic.

Sharing a combined 20 years at Caddick Construction, Tucker and Clarkson are promoted to design director and construction director respectively, having both climbed the ranks in site-based roles.

Clarkson joined the business in 2019 as project director for SOYO, Caddick Construction’s flagship build-to-rent development in Leeds city centre on behalf of Moda Living. He brings 20 years of experience in delivering complex and high profile projects for blue chip clients.

He will be responsible for overseeing regional projects, from pre-construction through to delivery and aftercare as well as keeping sight of key intricacies of project delivery.

Tucker will oversee all design processes and procedures across Yorkshire and the North East.

He will be responsible for managing the business’ design teams and overseeing all projects from inception through to completion to ensure efficiency and high quality.

The appointment builds on his 17-year career with the group, which first saw him fulfil the role of site manager, going on to become design co-ordinator and design manager.

Paul Dodsworth, managing director of Caddick Construction Group, said: “Caddick Construction Group is on a very exciting journey; we have a proud reputation as a leading, trusted and expert contractor but there is still so much we can achieve.

“The expertise and skill we have in our business lends itself to our ambitious growth plans and our recent appointments and promotions will be fundamental to unlocking that potential.”

Trubshaw added: “The success of Caddick Construction over recent years is owed to the incredible expertise and capability the business holds, and it’s a really exciting time as we look at harnessing that potential and growing into new regional markets.”

Sheffield-based housebuilder, Honey, has appointed a former Avant Homes board member to the position of non-executive chairman as the company looks to begin delivery of its first development.

Gerry Loftus has more than 25 years’ experience as a senior corporate finance partner with PwC and Deloitte and holds non-executive positions with several businesses.

He served on Avant Homes’ board for a period of six years before the company was sold to its current owners in April 2021.

Honey was launched last October by former Avant Homes chief executive officer, Mark Mitchell, who worked alongside Loftus throughout his time at the company.

Honey is backed by private equity firm Alchemy Partners and its Alchemy Special Opportunities Fund IV which has £937m of fully committed capital. The business recently submitted plans to deliver its first two schemes.

Loftus said: “Mark has a clear vison for Honey based on delivering an excellent product for homebuyers that combines style, substance and sustainability.

“He is a highly capable operator, and I am enjoying working with him again to help firmly establish Honey as a recognised and respected housebuilding brand.”

Mitchell, added: “I have a huge amount of respect for Gerry having experienced at first hand the wise counsel and strategic direction he provides.

“His appointment is a key element of our controlled growth strategy, and will further enable us to quickly establish Honey within the residential development sector in the North and Midlands.”

Property, minerals and renewable energy firm, The Banks Group, has chosen experienced industry professional Russ Hall to lead the next stage of the development of its property businesses in Yorkshire.

He brings more than 20 years’ sector experience to the family firm and has taken on a new dual executive role.

He is now managing director of the company’s longstanding property development arm, Banks Property, and has also taken on the same position with its new dedicated regional housebuilding company, Banks Homes, which operates across Yorkshire and the North East.

Hall has fulfilled a range of senior property roles in both the public and private sectors, and was previously managing director of residential developer Taylor Wimpey plc’s North East business, having worked his way up through a number of different executive roles with the company over the last decade.

The Banks Group has 47 years’ experience of developing land for commercial property, residential property and energy-related projects, and runs its Yorkshire operations from its Harewood office near Leeds.

The company has delivered property schemes in a range of locations across Yorkshire and recently unveiled plans for a new integrated extension to the village of Eggborough in North Yorkshire which would include up to 1,500
energy efficient properties.

As well as managing the construction on some of the sites that Banks Property brings forward, Banks Homes will also look to acquire its own development sites directly from the market.

Hall said: “Banks’ strong position as a longstanding family firm, its ambitions to keep taking advantage of new opportunities through diversification and its longstanding focus on working positively with local communities made joining the company a very appealing option for me.

“Our extensive property development experience made it a logical step for us to start building new, high-quality and sustainable homes ourselves, and I’m aiming to use my experience of managing large-scale residential development to quickly establish Banks Homes as a leading operator in the Yorkshire housebuilding market.

“The new division will work independently, but alongside, the existing operations of Banks Property, which will continue to work with our landowner, agent and developer partners to identify, promote and sell land for the development of new homes by many of the UK’s best-known housebuilders.”
